November is Mouth Cancer Action Month.
Panadent takes oral cancer very seriously, as we’re sure you do—dental professionals are often the only ones with access to make a life-saving early diagnosis of oral cancer.
Earlier this month, Panadent’s Pamela Prince was invited to the Press and Parliamentary reception at the Houses of Parliament, London. The event was hosted by the President and trustees of the British Dental Heath Foundation (BDHF). Peter Baker, Director of HPV Action, gave the keynote speech, calling MP’s to support HPV jabs for boys—a gender-neutral approach for HPV vaccinations.
Peter continued to state that HPV is on a trend to overtake smoking as a risk factor for Mouth Cancer. HPV in the mouth is more easily treatable if caught early. According to BDHF statistics, over 2,000 UK dentists have signed up to hold Mouth Cancer awareness and screening days in their practices over the month of November. One practice is reported to be holding a 24-hour, non-stop mouth-screening campaign. A record number are joining the #BlueLipSelfie campaign, too.
By working together, dental professionals, suppliers, and patients can bring mouth cancer and oral health to the forefront of our minds once again.
