• HEALBOND DUO is an advanced strong «dual cure» adhesive system, water/ethanol-based.
• The surface to be treated has to be etched beforehand.
• To be used on slightly moist dentine surfaces (wet-bonding technique).

Indications

• To bond light curing composites such as MUST FLOW, CIRUS, CIRUS FLOW, PUREFILL, PUREFILL
FLOW (use the bottle of adhesive – black cap).
• To bond dual curing and self-curing composites, such as CORE D (use a mix of the two bottles).

In 2013, Panadent made the conscious decision to become the UK’s market leading supplier in ‘green’ dental products. Thereby offering everyday dental products in the surgery with less toxic monomers.

This objective was noty only out of consideration for patients’ health but also for the environment. We joined forces with a small specialist manufacturer called ‘Elsodent’ who developed better ‘evidence based’ formulations to eliminate triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA), bisphenylglycidyl dimethacrylate (Bis GMA) (and its derivatives), as well as 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), all common toxins in virtually all restorative materials. HEMA, is commonly used in dental adhesives, resin cements and liners.
Apart from their inherent toxicity, these monomers have a chemical structure which makes them easily hydrolysable by salivary enzymes, which leads to the release of highly toxic molecules (“secondary cytotoxicity”). This hydrolysis is due to the fact that resins and dental composites can never be completely polymerised and their conversion rate (polymerization rate) varies between just 35% to 65%. This is a scandal particularly as the release of toxins from dental materials is completely unnecessary.

Some of the monomers which form the organic network of the material thus remain free and can get into the mouth. There, they are subject to this enzyme attack which leads to the release in the mouth of different molecules, depending on the original monomer.

TEGDMA produces formaldehyde, Bis GMA produces Bisphenol A, and HEMA produces formaldehyde and ethylen glycol. TEGDMA and BisGMA are present in significant concentrations (between 8% and 10% for the former, between 20% and 30% for the latter) in dental products.

Elsodent has managed to replace the toxic monomers with a non-toxic substitute which not only eliminates the toxins, but also enhances product performance both physically and mechanically. As they are not hydrolysable and with over a 72% polymerization rate they are therefore more stable in the mouth too.
